Hi. My name is Captain Kid and I am a 5 year old Doberman with a story to tell. Now, I get lots of exercise, love, and attention every day, but it wasn't always this way...

I've only lived in East Dundee with Heather and Allen for a year, but boy have I learned a lot! They tell me that before I got into the Doberman Rescue organization, I didn't know what real life was like! I had never walked on a leash before, played hide and seek, tasted peanut butter, learned any obedience commands or played ball. In fact, I was even a little scared of riding in the car!

No one would ever guess that about me now though, because whenever I have to stay home while Heather and Allen go on an adventure in the car without me, I sure am disappointed. I just love the wind in my face and all the smells I encounter during a car ride, not to mention the surprise of the destination since I never know where we're headed - possibly the dog park, one of our friends' houses, the racetrack, maybe just the store, but hopefully someplace fun and exciting! Of course, anyplace other than home is exciting.

I have lots of other favorite activities too, now. Another one is snuggling on the couch. Heather calls me a dobersnuggler because I love to be close to her. In fact, her lap is one of the best places for snuggling. I also love playing ball because tennis balls are my absolute favorite toy. I'm still learning how to settle down when I know we're going to play ball 'cause it's really hard for me to contain my excitement. I've also learned what fun going on treasure hunts is; I can do a down stay while Heather hides treats around the room and when she gives me the signal, I jump up and use my big sniffer to search out all the goodies. But because I can't count, I don't know how many there are, so long after I've long found them all, I'm still sniffing around to make sure I haven't missed any.

I also took an obedience class with Heather and Allen and I am so proud now that I know how to sit, down, stay, wait, come and more. I even know some of those commands in spanish too! I know, I'm a smart guy. I also know I'm spoiled in the best way but I'm so glad I have a new pack now that cares about me!
